AWE TUNING TAKES FASTEST MK6 TSI K04 ON RECORD WITH DAILY DRIVER, BEATS BIG TURBOS

The AWE Tuning in-house Mk6 GTI broke new ground at the NHRA certified Cecil County Dragway with a 12.26 second, 115.7 mph ¼ mile. This is the fastest quarter mile time and trap speed to date for a TSI K04 powered vehicle, and the second fastest confirmed TSI quarter mile time and trap speed, outright, only trumped by a purpose built big turbo car.
“I’m particularly proud of this one,” states Chris Dollery, AWE Tuning’s Director of Engineering, present at the record-setting run at Cecil County Drag Strip, “This is a daily driver – a car that anyone can own. Stock engine. Stock transmission. No special software or prototype parts, not even drag tires.”

For this pass, AWE Tuning ran VP109 race fuel and removed the passenger seat and rear seat, the spare tire and the floor mats, standard practice for the drag strip. Of note, a full weight pass was done on 93 octane, and produced results of 12.793 seconds at 112.65mph.
“We drove it to the track, and home. Take it to the office, take it to the track. That’s what we’re about – unlocking the Performance of the car while maintaining its drivability,” remarks Dollery.
Software and Options
File wise, the original, exclusive AWE Tuning "Road Race" file is recommended for anyone that does road course track driving in high heat environments. For the Road Race file, there is one file, both for 91 and 93 octane. This file recorded impressive results this summer in 100 degree testing. The updated file used (dubbed “High Output”) provides additional mid-range boost, while high rpm boost, ignition and air/fuel remain the same. The file is still well within the BorgWarner compressor map (for those unfamiliar, a compressor map is the factory issued parameter of safe turbo limits). Two versions of the G.I.A.C. High Output file are available, one for 91 octane and one for 93 octane.
